What's Happening To Our Youth?

Car kills woman sitting on her sofa - Two juveniles appear in court

The two boys accused of crashing a car into a Hampton home
Saturday appeared in court Monday.
The 14-year-old faces charges of felony murder, grand larceny,

felony hit and run, reckless driving and no operators license.
The 12-year-old is being held on charges of felony murder and
grand larceny.
Under Virginia law the 14-year-old can be tried as an adult, police

just have to prove they have enough evidence to uphold the murder charge.
Both boys will be back in court later this month.
Saturday, the two teens are accused of stealing a black Jeep Cherokee

from the parking lot of a nearby convenience store. Police say the keys
were left in the ignition.
Michelle Hart was sitting on her sofa watching TV when the boys are said

to have crashed the Jeep into her living room. Hart was pinned under the car,
and pronounced dead by medics.
Hart's husband had left a few minutes before to run an errand, and their two

girls were upstairs playing.
Hart's husband is in the Navy, and his orders were up in August. The

couple was hoping to return to Jacksonville, FL where she is from and her
family lives.
Michelle would have celebrated her 34th birthday and her

wedding anniversary at the end of this month.
The Hart family had lived in Hampton for a year.

I don't know what is happening to our youth today. When
I was growing up, 12 and 14 was still considered babies.
Now, 12 and 14 year old kids are stealing cars, shooting each
other, doing drugs...yuou name it and they are doing it.
Where are the parents? I know that parents can't watch
their children 24 hours a day, but someone must be responsible
for this bad behavior.
I know it sound cliche, but I really don't know what this world
is coming to.

Hotep Her Royal Blaqueness,

Excellent commentary! Solutions are needed in our community to effect change on a wide scale. We cannot continue to raise our children to be ignorant risk takers. Your post was definitely on point!

To answer your question of ‘what is happening to our youth’, it is simple - the government! I believe that due to increased taxes, decreased employment along with the courts ruling that spanking a child is child abuse, parents have taken a different route. I believe people are so congested as well as lazy and confused that they would rather put all the joys in having the child but skip the joys of raising one.

Wow Royal, you sound as though you’re getting old like OUR parents and grandparents as I reminisce my mother and grandmother saying the same thing about us when we were young. Please! If they could see the youth of today, I’m sure they would just die; I’m so sure they’re turning over in their graves as we speak.

When the kids at Columbine High shot up the school, I was deeply troubled. So many people wanted to blame the parents for allowing the kids to have access to guns. Others, wanted to blame stores like Wal-Mart and K-Mart for allowing kids to purchase guns, but I totally disagree.

Please, (your post has hit a sore spot)

My parents owned and operated a fish-n-tackle store and when Urban Renewal bought them out, many of the unsold items were stored in our home. Moreover let me say, MANY of those items were as follows: 38’s, 45’s, different types of hunting rifles and knives. ALL of those weapons were NOT locked in a closet, but were behind the doors, under the bed, etc. At that time, we watched violent movies, but I tell ya what: WE WOULD NOT TOUCH THOSE WEAPONS even if we wanted to. Yes, we knew that guns could possibly KILL anyone of us. HOWEVER, we were more intimated of the pain my parents would lay on us. Please, we were more scared of my parents wrath then we were of any guns.

Too many parents have failed to do their jobs and for that very reason, I believe that those who refuse to teach their children respect and responsibility shouldn’t have them. I suppose the parents themselves aren’t responsible therefore yielding the bad kids who terrify the neighborhood. It’s just sad.

To answer your question of ‘what is happening to our youth’, it is simple - irresponsible folks out having unprotected sex.
